TULSA, Okla. - Seniors Lasse Muscheites and Jefta Kecic prepare to face off in the 2017 ITA All-American Tennis Championships in the Main Draw Doubles against a pair from Mississippi State at 2 p.m. at the University of Tulsa.
"I feel like Lasse and Jefta are really excited about the opportunity in front of them tomorrow. They were disappointed in their singles results, but we have moved past that and are strictly focusing on doubles now," said head coach Matt Lucas. "We know that if we play to our potential and compete for every point then we can make a deep run. These are possibly the best 32 teams in the country so each match presents a great challenge, but more importantly a wonderful opportunity for these guys."
Muscheites is no stranger to the All-American Championships as he finished in second place a year ago with Jack Findel-Hawkins. This is Kecic's first trip to the doubles main draw.
The duo is ranked No. 23 in the preseason ITA Division I poll. On September 23, Muscheites and Kecic competed in the Gator 1 Ranked tournament and went 2-1 in the weekend. Last season the pair put up a 6-1 record in the fall campaign.
North Florida takes on Niclas Braun and Trevor Foshey from Mississippi State who earned a No. 7 ranking in the preseason poll. The Bulldog pair will team up for the first time this fall after posting a 20-14 overall record in 2016-17. The duo also reached the Round of 16 in the 2017 NCAA Doubles Championship to end the campaign.
If Muscheites and Kecic advance to the next round, the pair would face off with No. 20 Spencer Papa-Jake van Emburgh (Oklahoma) or No. 31 Mitch Harper-Henrik Korsgaard (Virginia Tech) on Friday.
