JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida women's tennis canceled its match against UCF originally scheduled for Friday and now wraps up its regular schedule at Stetson to wrap up Atlantic Sun play in DeLand at noon.
UNF is 10-6 overall and 5-0 in A-Sun on the year entering its final weekend of regular season play. North Florida has already clinched a share of the regular season title with a win against FGCU and the Hatters loss to the Eagles. UNF can claim it outright with a victory over the Hatters. With a loss to Stetson, the Ospreys and Eagles would share the title, but it would give UNF the No. 1 seed in the tournament due to the win over FGCU.Â
Junior Quetzali Vazquez tops the team with an 11-5 mark including going 5-0 in conference action in the No. 5 position. She pairs with Noemi Hemmerich for a 7-3 record in the No. 1 doubles spot to lead the team. Hemmerich also has 10 victories in singles play including a 4-1 mark in league action.
Sophomore Luise Intert has a 10-4 mark in dual matches including a 9-1 record in the No. 4 spot. In doubles play and a 5-0 record in the A-Sun, Intert paired with freshman Rafaela Gomez in doubles for an 8-6 mark in the No. 2 position. Junior Michelle Valdez is also undefeated in conference play in the No. 2 position and with doubles partner Mariella Calderon, has a 4-1 mark at the No. 3 spot. The Ospreys have only dropped four total singles matches in conference play.
The Hatters are 8-10 overall and 4-1 in league action. Eveline Lepinay is Stetson's top player with a 14-2 mark in the No. 1 position and she pairs with Maja Salibasic in the No. 1 Â and 2 doubles positions with a 7-6 mark. UNF owns a 9-4 record against Stetson since 2006 and is 4-1 against the Hatters in the last five meetings. The last time the Ospreys visited Mandy Stoll courts, UNF grabbed a 5-2 victory.
After Saturday, the Ospreys await their opponent in the Atlantic Sun Championship beginning on Friday, April 22.
