
Beach @OspreyVB Readies for Final Regular Season Weekend

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida beach volleyball looks to finish the regular season strong at the Florida State Duals where it will face familiar foes in UAB, College of Charleston and Georgia State, and new opponent, Tulane on Friday and Saturday in Tallahassee.
UNF takes on UAB and Tulane on Friday at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., respectively before playing College of Charleston and No. 9 Georgia State on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The Ospreys are currently receiving votes in the latest AVCA poll and ranked No. 15 in the DiG Magazine Collegiate Beach Poll.
Coming off of a 3-2 weekend at the Fiesta on Siesta, the Ospreys wrap up non-conference duals before taking part in the Atlantic Sun Championship as the No. 2 seed. With a 19-5 mark, the Ospreys set the single-season win record along with matching conference win record which were both set in 2014.Â
Senior Ambre Desaulnay and freshman Chaney Howard continue to pace the Ospreys with a team-best 20 victories, while reigning A-Sun Pair of the Week Courtney Miller and Katarina Raicevic stand at 19-5. North Florida owns a .700 winning percentage and has won eight of its last 10 matches.
UAB stands at 13-11 overall and is coming off of a win against Jacksonville that snapped three-match losing streak. The Blazers are led by Gabbi Moreno and Emily Martinez who have a 16-4 mark in the No. 4 and No. 5 spots. Tressa Buckland and Avei Logoleo are second on the team with a 14-4 record, playing mainly in the No. 4 position. The Ospreys have a 3-1 series record against the Blazers and just defeated them at the Fiesta on Siesta, 5-0.
The Ospreys and Tulane have only faced off one time prior to the weekend with the Big Green grabbing the 3-2 win in the 2015 Fiesta on Siesta. Tulane is currently 14-11 and ranks 17th in the DiG poll. Tea Juric and Jackie Wegner lead the team with an 18-6 mark in the No. 1 position, while Madeline Mertz and Lan Nguyen hold down the No. 2 court with a 10-5 record. The Green Wave won four in the last fiuve matches including an upset of No. 8 Georgia State.
Georgia State, who is tied for ninth in the AVCA poll and ninth in DiG, beat the Ospreys in the opening dual of the season, 4-1. Milani Pickering and Delany Rohan have a team-best 21-3 mark spread across No. 3-5. Splitting time in the No. 1 and No. 2 duals, Jansen Button and Sara Olivova own a 20-5 mark.Nina Interwies and Kate Rawls have proved to have a stronger record in the No. 2 position with an 11-3 mark, but are 6-4 at the No. 1 position. Georgia State has won four of its last eight matches including an upset of No. 8 LSU on Saturday, April 9.
College of Charleston is on a five-match losing streak after competing in the Fiesta on Siesta including a 4-1 loss to UNF. The Cougars own just one victory against UNF, back in 2012 on Charleston's home court. The lone win at the Fiesta was a three-set victory in the No. 5 match. The Ospreys beat all of the other courts in straight sets.
After the Florida State Duals, North Florida awaits its opponent for the 2016 Atlantic Sun Championship.
