JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida women's tennis heads north to face off with Atlantic Sun newcomer NJIT and USC Upstate on Thursday and Saturday, respectively to begin conference play. Game time on Thursday with the Highlanders is set for 2 p.m. at the Naimoli Family Athletic Facility and the play the Spartans at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
North Florida is coming off a 7-0 sweep of SIU on Friday, March 18. The Ospreys own a 5-5 mark on the season heading into conference action. Freshman Rafaela Gomez notched her first victory in the No. 3 position against the Salukis and now has a team-leading six dual match wins. Luise Intert is currently undefeated in the No. 4 spot with a 4-0 mark and 5-3 in dual matches. In doubles play, Intert and Gomez pair up for a team-best 6-3 mark, while Noemi Hemmerich and Quetzali Vazquez are currently one a three-match win streak heading into conference action.
NJIT is currently 4-9 on the season and have lost eight of its last nine matches. The Highlanders lone win since February 14 came against Colgate. Rafaella Sampaio is on a two-match win streak and currently has Alba Rosas Carcia leads the team with six dual match wins in the No. 4 position, while Nataljia Tasovac is 5-2 in the No. 6 spot.Â
The Spartans are looking for their first victory of the season as they own a 0-13 record. Anna Zoske has three wins in the No. 1 spot, but has been struggling and has lost four straight. In doubles play though, Zoske and Filippa Ericson are 5-3 in the No. 1 position. Carol Sigaki and Vale Zarama own four wins in the No. 2 spot. USC Upstate hosts Stetson on Thursday prior to the UNF match.
After their trip north, the Ospreys return home to host Lipscomb and Kennesaw State. Live scoring will be available for both matches.
