FORT MYERS, Fla. – The North Florida Women's Soccer team opened up Atlantic Sun play Saturday night against FGCU in Fort Myers, falling to the Eagles   .
Â
The Ospreys (2-8-0, 0-1-0) head back home to Hodges Stadium next week to continue conference play against Stetson.
Â
"We came out a little timid in the first 10 min and that cost us. FCGU was very dynamic in the attack and put us under a lot of pressure," said head coach Robin Confer.
Â
The Eagles (5-5-1, 1-0-0) opened up the game in the seventh minute with a goal by Ali Rodgers. Rodgers took a short pass from Tabby Tindell from the right side and beat keeper Susie Ford with a low shot.
Â
FGCU added the second goal in the 28th minute when Tindell found the right side of the net off of a pass from Camille Knudstrup.
Â
The Ospreys had some chances to get on the board but couldn't find the net against the Eagles defense. In the 19th minute, freshman Haley Koncir got a foot on the ball but her shot went wide.
Â
In the 45th minute right before halftime, freshman Mackenzie Meisler got a shot on goal, but it was saved by the Eagle keeper.
Â
Junior Kayla Aritt had two breakaway chances at the goal but ultimately couldn't get the shot off. First she was cut out by a solid tackle by the FGCU defender. In the second opportunity, the keeper charged and was able to grab the ball off her foot.
Â
"I felt like we made some adjustments in the second half and played better," added Confer. "It's only game one in the conference and we have six more left, so we will now focus on Stetson on Friday"Â
Â
The Ospreys were back in action next Friday at Hodges Stadium when they face Stetson in conference play at 7 p.m.
