Women's Soccer Falls In Season Opener At Georgia Southern

STATESBORO, Ga. – North Florida Women's Soccer fell on the road to Georgia Southern, 2-1, in its season opener at Bo Pitts Field on Wednesday night.
Fifth year forward/midfielder Paige McSwigan netted the Ospreys' first goal of the season off an assist from sophomore defender Skya Horth in the 13th minute to secure an early 1-0 advantage.
For McSwigan, it marked her 13th-career goal, which moved her into a tie for ninth place in Division I program history. For Horth, it was her second-career assist.
Making the start in goal for the first time since Aug. 24, 2025, fifth year goalkeeper Sofia Miliancano kept the Eagles off the scoreboard in the opening half with three saves.
Georgia Southern would respond with a goal of its own in the 53rd minute to even the score, 1-1.
Junior forward Allison Souers threatened in the 77th minute with a shot on goal, but the Eagles would take their first lead of the match with a goal in the 84th minute.
Souers and junior defender Julia Cosgrove each registered their 23rd-straight start dating back to last season.
Transfer junior midfielder K.J. Straub drew her first start as an Osprey.
Overall, 20 Ospreys logged action with senior defender Zoe Looker logging the full 90 minutes.
