JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Sophomore Eden Meyer earned a second consecutive first-team all-conference performance in leading the North Florida women's cross country team to a second-place finish Friday morning in the 2015 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship meet held at the Hayt Golf Learning Center.
Meyer ran a near season best 17:41 en route to finishing seventh in the individual standings. The Ospreys scored a team total of 73, as Lipscomb claimed their fifth straight team crown with a score of 19.
Senior Lauren Gonzalez was the squad's second finisher running a time of 18:19 to finish 16th followed by freshman Audrey Carpenter in 17th with a personal record 18:20. Carpenter's effort also earned her Atlantic Sun All-Freshmen honors.
UNF's other scoring performances included senior Alexis Irwin in 19th at 18:24 and sophomore Vanessa Philbert, a standout 800m runner for the Ospreys in track and field, in 22nd  with a personal best 18:46.
"I think Eden really handled the pressure of expectations extremely well," said head coach Jeff Pigg. "It was great to see her earn first-team all-conference honors again this year and I thought she ran a good race. I was proud of the effort that both our seniors, Alexis and Lauren, gave in their final ASun races. We were excited to also have Audrey Carpenter make the All-Freshman list. As a team we showed great improvement from our season opening home meet here to today's race. While second isn't exactly where we wanted to finish it still was an outstanding performance for this group."
The Ospreys have now finished in the top three at the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship in nine of its 11 seasons in the league including five runner-up showings. UNF captured the 2009 women's championship.
North Florida will now begin preparation for the 2015 NCAA South Regional scheduled for Nov. 13 in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
