TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The North Florida cross country teams wrapped up a solid 2015 campaign Friday morning at the NCAA South Regional meet hosted by Alabama at the Harry Pritchett Running Park. The UNF men finished 12th and the women were 15th.
Rookie Logan Poteet, the Atlantic Sun Runner and Freshman of the Year, led the way for the Osprey men posting a 31:32 in his first collegiate 10k. His performance placed him 23rd overall and earned him All-District honors. The women were paced by sophomore standout Eden Meyer, who finished 57th overall in a time of 21:39 on the 6k layout.
"Logan ran another really solid race finishing 23rd in his first ever 10,000 meter race," said head coach Jeff Pigg. "I'm really proud of how he stayed focused and closed out the season on such a high note. Overall our men finished lower than we hoped but we are a young group and we will work hard and come back better next year."
Junior Michael Damato was the squad's second finisher in a time of 32:17 followed closely by sophomore Tyler Stahl in a personal best time of 32:18. Freshman Fynn Timm and sophomore Tyler Bennett rounded out the list of scoring runners for the Ospreys in times of 33;21 and 33:22, respectively. Junior Brad Hort finished in a time of 33:57 while lone senior Justin Bryan concluded his cross country career with a time of 34:28.
Â
"Our women were paced by Eden Meyer and freshman Audrey Carpenter," added Pigg. "Eden wasn't thrilled with her place, but she is a great competitor and she will rise again. Audrey and fellow freshman Emily Kerns ran well and will continue to improve."
For the women, Meyer was the top scorer followed by Audrey Carpenter in a time of 22:18 in her first collegiate 6k. Senior Lauren Gonzalez was the team's third finisher in her final cross country event, running a time of 22:28. Freshman Emily Kerns and senior Alexis Irwin were the squad's other two scoring runners finishing in times of 22:38 and 22:55, respectively. Sophomore Grace Meyer ran a personal best time of 23:36 and junior Rachel Licea also had a personal record 23:49 in finishing out the UNF lineup.
