TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - North Florida women's cross country finished eighth overall among 22 teams at the Crimson Classic, placing over Miami and South Florida on Friday morning at Harry Pritchett Running Course.
The Ospreys finished the highest among every team from the ASUN Conference competing in the race. Senior Ella Chandler led the Ospreys with the top time at 21:17.1 to place 48th overall.
"The women did a really nice job competing and working together in a deep field,"Â women's cross country head coach Tyler Stahl said. "Ella Chandler did an awesome job leading the way and running with confidence. She has grown a lot as a cross country runner and we are very proud of her."
Madeline Castillo finished 57th and added a strong performance for the Ospreys with a time of 21:30.9. Annika Buser joined Chandler and Castillo in the top 60 finishers. Buser finished 58th overall at 21:34.7.
Cohen Kooker and Jada Williams recorded marks of 21:42.8 and 21:45.8, respectively.
"Madeline and Annika showed toughness throughout the race and finished strong," Stahl said. "Cohen and Jada stepped up in a big way and passed a lot of competitors in the final stretch to help propel us to a top 10 finish. As a team, it was great to see many people step up when we needed them too. The race plan was executed well which allowed us to finish strong. It was great to finish ahead of all of the ASUN opponents we faced and all of the in-state opponents as well."
STAHL'S STATEMENT
"This was a great measuring stick to see how we stack up against many teams within the conference and the region. We're running with a lot of confidence and momentum right now and we feel like we are in a great spot heading into the ASUN championship in two weeks. I am very proud of the total team effort today."
