HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - North Florida women's cross country posted four personal-best times to close out the season in 17th overall at the NCAA South Regional Championship hosted at John Hunt Park on Friday morning.
Senior Ella Chandler was the lead UNF runner with a lifetime best mark of 21:09.71. She placed 71st overall among the 192 total student-athletes in Huntsville, followed by Ana Markovina, Madeline Castillo and Cohen Kooker with sub-22 minute 6k times.
Chandler gave the Ospreys their highest individual finish at the NCAA South Regional meet since Eden Meyer in 2017. It's also the first time since the 2017 NCAA regional meet that three Ospreys placed in the top 100 overall.
Four runners for UNF recorded personal-best marks during regionals. Laci Watford joining Chandler, Castillo and Kooker with improvements in their 6k race times.
The Ospreys competed against 28 teams in the meet, including 10 Power Four programs, as the newly-ranked No. 15 squad from the NCAA South Region. They placed over in-state schools such as FIU, FAU, Jacksonville and Stetson.
"The women competed hard today. We fell short of our goal of being in the top 15 teams at this meet, but the team did a nice job throughout the season. Ana [Markovina] and Ella [Chandler] capped off their careers with their best individual finishes at this meet. The seniors all saw their best team finish throughout their time at UNF. I am proud of the season that we had and we are looking forward to what this team can accomplish in the future."
