VERO BEACH, Fla. -- The No. 44-ranked North Florida men's golf team closed out the fall portion of their schedule, earning a fourth-place finish at the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational after shooting a final round 1-under 287, Tuesday at Quail Valley Golf Club (par 72 / 7,350 yards).
The Ospreys collected their third consecutive Top 10 finish and second Top 5 of the fall after posting a 54-hole total of 8-under 856. UNF raced to the top of the leaderboard early in the final round as the squad was 9-under through nine holes but slipped a bit over the closing holes. Senior Taylor Hancock again led the way for North Florida finishing tied for sixth at 4-under 212 following a final round 71 (-1).

"We played good for nine holes but weren't able to keep it rolling," said head coach Scott Schroeder. "We were able to get to the lead but did nothing good on the back nine. We had a successful fall season. I was proud of the way we bounced back from a horrible opening tournament and should finish in the Top 50 for the fall, which is a pretty good accomplishment. We played a lot of young guys and now will work on improving them in the offseason."
Hancock was joined in the Top 20 by a pair of freshmen teammates as Andrew Alligood tied for 15th at 1-under 215 after a final round 76 and Travis Trace carded a 2-under 70 to finish tied for 17th at even par 216. The finishes marked career best for both players. Senior Austin Padova finished just outside the Top 20, earning a tie for 21st with a 1-over par total of 217, highlighted by his 2-under 70 on Tuesday, while freshman Philip Knowles rounded out the UNF lineup with a 76 to finish tied for 41st at 223.

No. 62-ranked Michigan State and No. 88 North Texas shared the team title in the 15-team competition at 848, with the Spartans earning the championship via scorecard tiebreaker. No. 37 North Carolina State was third at 852 followed by UNF and No. 36 Memphis (857) filling out the Top 5 squads. Thomas Rosemueller of North Texas claimed the medalist crown with a 12-under total of 204.
North Florida will now be off from competition for a little over three months before returning to action on Feb. 1-2 in the Sea Best Invitational at TPC Sawgrass.
