JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After being on the road for its first two conference games, University of North Florida women's basketball hosts its first Atlantic Sun game on Saturday when the Ospreys take on Stetson at UNF Arena. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m., and the game will air live on ESPN3 with Brent Martineau (play-by-play) and Jessica Blaylock (color analyst) on the call.
Â
"It is always great to play on our home court and in front of our fans," said head coach Mary Tappmeyer. "Stetson has emerged as one of the top Atlantic Sun teams in the last few years, so we know tomorrow will be a challenge. We have to follow our game plan and be solid defensively for all 40 minutes."
Â
UNF has dropped its first two Atlantic Sun games and comes off a 75-42 loss at Florida Gulf Coast on Wednesday. However, UNF has not been at home since its overtime win against UMKC on Jan. 6. Additionally, the last two Osprey home games have come down to the wire. The game with UMKC was decided in the last second of overtime with a Janeá Williams layup. Prior to that, Destinee Smith converted on a three-point play with 2.9 seconds to lift UNF to a 57-55 win against Mercer on Jan. 1.
Â
Saturday's game is "Bring a Kid to a Game" Day with children under 12 getting in free with the purchase of an adult ticket.
Â
Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for Youth 17-under, Senior Citizens, Military and UNF Faculty and Staff with proper ID. Admission for UNF students with a valid Osprey1 Card and children 2-and-under are free. Tickets may be purchased online at www.UNFOspreys.com, by phone at (904) 620-BIRD (2473) or at the UNF Arena Ticket Office.
Â
Â
ESPN3 Home Debut: Saturday's game is the first time UNF will appear on ESPN3 at UNF Arena. All future UNF home games will air live on ESPN3 as part of the Atlantic Sun's E3 On-Campus Initiative. The Ospreys have already appeared on ESPN3 in four games this season.
Â
In the First Atlantic Sun Home Game: Since joining the Atlantic Sun in 2005-06, UNF is 7-2 in its first home conference game of the season. Meanwhile, Saturday is just the second time UNF has hosted Stetson in its conference home opener. The Ospreys welcomed Stetson to UNF Arena for the 2007-08 A-Sun opener and defeated the Hatters 46-36 on Jan. 5, 2008.
Â
Scouting Stetson: Enters Saturday with a 12-4 overall record and 1-1 in Atlantic Sun play… fell to Florida Gulf Coast last Saturday 57-55, but defeated Jacksonville on Wednesday 73-47… has won five of last six games, scoring over 70 points in each of those victories… has limited opponents to an Atlantic Sun-best 57.3 points per game, .342 field goal percentage and a .264 three-point field goal percentage… leads the Atlantic Sun with 10.1 steals per game… four Hatters average over 10.0 points per game (Amber Porter – 13.8, Brianti Saunders – 13.1, Myeisha Hall – 12.9, Jamma Sharp – 12.7)… Porter leads the team with 7.5 rebounds per game and 36 blocks, while Sharp has 50 steals.
