#SB Swept in Sunday Doubleheader at Mercer

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of North Florida softball dropped both games of Sunday's doubleheader at Mercer, falling 11-0 in five innings in Game One and then 11-2 in six innings in Game Two at Sikes Field.

In Game One, Mercer (26-11, 9-2 Atlantic Sun) got out to a 3-0 lead in the first after Caroline Taylor sent a three-run homer over right field.

UNF (19-16 overall, 4-10 Atlantic Sun) saw itself fall further behind in the second as the Bears scored seven runs on eight hits to go up 10-0. Mercer's runs came on a bases loaded walk; a bases loaded two-run single; a one-out, two-run triple and then back-to-back RBI singles.

Mercer added its final run in the fourth as Riley Carter stole home.

Kaylie Wallace was credited with the loss after allowing six runs off six hits in 1.0 inning.
Â
Kirsten Stevens pitched all 5.0 innings for the Bears, giving up three hits and striking out one.
Â
Marissa Thomas, Ashley Holton and Rachel Engel each registered hits for the Ospreys.
Â
Taylor was 2-for-3 with five RBI and two runs scored.

In Game Two, UNF got out to an early lead, but was unable to withstand Mercer's late-game rally that included four home runs. The Ospreys took advantage of an error in the second inning that brought home Mariah Reynolds and Ashia Kerr and went up 2-0.

However, Mercer took the lead with a six-run fourth inning that featured a lead-off home run, a two-run homer, a two-run double and a sacrifice fly. The Bears added to their lead with another two-run home run in the fifth inning in order to go up 8-2. Krista Kennedy ended the game with a three-run walk-off shot to center field.

Kayla Goff received the loss after allowing three earned runs off three hits in the first 3.1 innings. She also struck out one.

Julia Rice came in relief and limited UNF to one hit in the final four innings. She recorded one strikeout.
Â
Danica Mandarano, Katie Mandigo, Thomas and Reynolds each had one hit in Game Two.
Â
Taylor had another 2-for-3 showing from the plate. She tallied two RBI and one run scored.
Â
UNF and Mercer complete the three-game series on Monday afternoon. First pitch is set for 1 p.m., from Sikes Field.
