Second Half Costly as #WBB Falls to A-Sun Co-Leader Stetson

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After a strong start, ice-cold shooting in the second half doomed University of North Florida women's basketball in an 87-59 loss to Atlantic Sun co-leader Stetson Thursday night at UNF Arena.

Ki Conner led the Ospreys with 12 points, while Larkira Jones and Janeá Williams each pulled down 10 rebounds.

The Ospreys shot 28.4 percent (19-for-67) for the game and was 43.3 percent (13-for-30) from the first half. However, in the second half, UNF could only hit six field goals and shot 16.2 percent from the floor.

North Florida held a 47-43 advantage in rebounds.

All five of Stetson's starters scored in the double figures, with C.J. Coddington having a team-best 21 points and Amber Porter tallying an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double.

Stetson shot 50.0 percent (30-for-60) for the game.

UNF came back from being down 10 in the first half to cut Stetson's lead down to four. Down 27-17 at the 8:00 mark, three consecutive Osprey layups made it a four-point game. Conner's shot at 5:44 put it at 27-23 in favor of Stetson. However, the Hatters finished out the half on a 19-7 run that included Jama Sharp hitting a trey as time expire to give Stetson a 46-30 lead heading into halftime.

UNF and Stetson traded points to start the second half, but the Hatters had a 7-0 run to go up by 23 points when a Coddington layup put Stetson up 61-38 at 15:47. UNF was able to bring the Hatters' lead down to 18 at 11:14 with Destinee Smith hitting a trey that made it 65-47. However, Smith's three-pointer was the Ospreys' last field goal of the game as the remaining 12 points were the result of free throws.

The Ospreys return to action on Saturday against A-Sun co-leader Florida Gulf Coast. Tip is set for 4:30 p.m., and is the first game part of a doubleheader with UNF's men's program.Â
