#WTEN Closes Play at the UCF Invitational

ORLANDO, Fla. — The University of North Florida women's tennis team closed out the final day of the UCF Invitational with four wins on Monday at the UCF Tennis Complex.

"Overall, this was a good day to end on and I am happy with the progress the team made as a unit over the three days of the tournament," said head coach Audra Cohen. "We looked like a different team out there today, and it's starting to show that the girls are willing to see the big picture. In order to get better, we have to be willing to potentially fail."

The Ospreys began the day with a doubles victory against UCF. Michelle Valdez and Quetzali Vazquez defeated Annika Hepp and Clare Mendell 6-0 at the No. 3 spot.

In singles, North Florida earned wins at the No. 1, No. 4 and No. 6 spots against FIU. Simona Weymar beat Nina Nagode 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 1 position. At the No. 4 spot, Rebeca Pereira claimed her third singles victory of the tournament as she defeated Tina Mohorcic 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7). Vazquez was victorious over Valentina Briceno 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 6 position.

The Ospreys open their dual match season against Florida A&M on Feb. 8 at 11 a.m. at the UNF Tennis Complex.
