#WTEN Cruises Past Florida A&M, 7-0

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's tennis team opened its home slate with a 7-0 victory over Florida A&M on Sunday afternoon at the UNF Tennis Complex.

"I am happy with the team's composure today," said head coach Audra Cohen. "We kept our nerves in check and got the job done on every court. We have worked very hard on deciding to be the more confident and composed player on the court. Moving forward, we have to hold each other accountable to choosing the right attitude and deciding to be confident and poised against every opponent."

The Ospreys started off the day strong in doubles. Taylor Hollander and Marina Cunningham defeated Shantal Blackwood and Amber Robinson 6-1 at No. 2 doubles. In the No. 3 spot, Quetzali Vazquez and Michelle Valdez quickly followed with a 6-1 victory over Alexis Dean and Dominique Henry to clinch the doubles point.

In singles, the Ospreys got a quick start with a 6-0, 6-0 Valdez victory over Elysia Ortiz in the No. 5 spot. In the No. 1 position, Simona Weymar was victorious over Dean 6-1, 6-2. Hollander followed the trend with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Henry at No. 4 singles. Cunningham topped Symone Townsend 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 2 position. Rebeca Pereira downed Blackwood 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 3 spot. Mariella Calderon had a 6-2, 6-3 win over Victoria Williams at No. 6 singles.

The Ospreys hit the road with a mid-week match on Wednesday, Feb. 12 against UCF at 2 p.m. at the UCF Tennis Complex.
