
#MGOLF Finishes Tied For 11th at Carpet Capital

ROCKY FACE, Ga. -- The North Florida men's golf team finished tied for 11th Sunday in the season opening Carpet Capital Collegiate hosted by Georgia Tech at The Farm Golf Club.
The Ospreys closed with a final round 300 finishing with a 54-hole total of 893. Junior MJ Maguire was the squad's top performer finishing tied for 23rd (219) following an even-par 72 on Sunday.
"The last two days were rough for us," said UNF head coach Scott Schroeder. "This was a great field to get ourselves started to see where we stand. We are an inexperienced team and have lots of room to grow. We will get back to work and play better in our next event."
Sophomore Austin Padova shot a 75 Sunday on his way to a tie for 41st (224), while junior newcomer Parker Jones finished tied for 45th (225) after a 76 in the last round. Junior Joey Petronio tied for 48th (226) and redshirt freshman Osten Waite was tied for 64th (232) in rounding out the Osprey lineup. Waite was made his collegiate debut at the event.
Tournament host Georgia Tech led wire-to-wire en route to claiming the tournament title by six shots. The Yellowjackets finished with a three-day total of 850 (-14) with Georgia finishing second at 856 (-8). LSU was third at 864 followed by Clemson (865), North Carolina (874), Auburn (875), Wake Forest (880), MTSU (884), Texas (887), South Carolina (888), UNF and Tennessee (893), Kennesaw State (897) and Chattanooga (899).
Tech's Ollie Schniederjans and UNC's Bailey Patrick were co-medalists as both players finished with nine-under totals of 207.
North Florida has a couple weeks off before returning to competition Sept. 30-Oct. 1 at the Shoal Creek Invitational in Birmingham, Ala.
