After 36 holes, #MGOLF in 9th at Shoal Creek Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Following rounds of 292-295 on the opening day of play Monday at the Shoal Creek Invitational hosted by Graeme McDowell, the North Florida men's golf team is in ninth place.
Boasting a two-round total of 587, the Ospreys were led by junior MJ Maguire's back-to-back rounds of 71 (-1). Maguire is currently tied for 10th at 142 in medalist play.
Fellow junior Joey Petronio followed an opening round 72 (E) with a two-over 74 and is in 35th place at 146. Sophomores Austin Padova (76-74) and Taylor Hancock (73-77) are both tied for 46th at 150 while junior newcomer Parker Jones rounds out the travel squad lineup in a tie for 56th at 154 (78-76). Senior Taylor Johnson, playing as an individual, is tied for 27th with an even par 144 (72-72).
Tournament host UAB leads the 12-team field with a 36-hole total of 556, just two shots in front of Ole Miss (558). Memphis is third at 566 with Liberty (568) and Florida (571) filling out the Top 5 standing. The Rebels' Blake Morris leads medalist play with a two-round tally of 135.
Play at the historic Shoal Creek Country Club concludes with a final round of 18 holes on Tuesday. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.
