
#MSOC Concludes Nonconference Schedule at Wofford

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's soccer team, ranked eighth in the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I Men's South Poll, travels to Spartanburg, S.C. to take on Wofford, ranked ninth in the NSCAA South Poll, in the final nonconference match of the 2013 season.

North Florida is off to its best start in program history. The Ospreys enter the weekend with a 4-1-1 overall record, while the Terriers are 4-3-1, including a 1-0-0 conference mark.

UNF opened the season with a 4-0-1 record, notching the best start in school history. The Ospreys were one of just 19 teams that were undefeated heading into Sunday's match. North Florida opened the 2013 campaign winning the Mike Gibbs Memorial Tournament, defeating Western Illinois (W, 2-1) and playing Valparaiso to a draw (T, 1-1, ot2). The Ospreys traveled to Orlando and upset traditional soccer power UCF, 1-0, in overtime. North Florida recorded wins against UNC Asheville (W, 4-1) and FIU (W, 1-0) before suffering its only blemish of the season on the road against Florida Atlantic (L, 3-2) in extra time.

Wofford started the season with three straight losses against Gardner-Webb (L, 5-4), Winthrop (L, 2-1) and Temple (L, 3-0). The Terriers earned a tie against Saint Joseph's (T, 0-0) and have since rattled off four consecutive victories against Liberty (W, 4-1), Jacksonville (W, 3-1), USC Upstate (W, 3-1) and Davidson (W, 2-1).

Through the first six matches of the season, the Ospreys have been a balanced team. Four players – Pedro Carneiro, Alex Morrell, Jean Rivaroli and Drew Spragg – have each netted a pair of goals with three other players adding goals. Four different players have registered at least one assist with Morrell (3) and Jon-Michael Vieira (2) leading the way.

Entering the week, the North Florida offense is averaging a Atlantic Sun best 1.83 goals per match, up from their 1.12 average the year before.

Defensively, North Florida has limited opponents to just six goals and a goals against average of 0.96. Brad Sienkiewicz has recorded all 563:29 minutes at goal. The graduate student has recorded 23 saves in the first six matches, posting a pair of shutouts.

Just four weeks into the season, Christopher Bush (Sept. 3) and Sienkiewicz (Sept. 9) have both been named Atlantic Sun Defensive Player of the Week, while Rivaroli (Sept. 23) has earned A-Sun Offensive POW honors.

Matthew Aurednik scored the match-winning goal and assisted on the first goal, as the Wofford men's soccer team defeated Davidson College 2-1 in the Terriers' Southern Conference opener. With the win, Wofford earned its fourth straight victory of the season.
