MACON, Ga. -- Senior Julien Belair of the University of North Florida men's tennis team earned a pair of singles victories over the weekend, as well as a win over a nationally-ranked doubles pair, en route to a share of his first career Atlantic Sun Men's Tennis Player of the Week award.
Belair, who is now the owner of an eight-match winning streak in singles play, was a key contributor over the weekend, earning crucial points for the Ospreys in a pair of A-Sun victories.
The senior started this weekend with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles in UNF's pivotal 4-3 win at 68th-ranked East Tennessee State. After winning the opening set, 6-3, Belair fell behind 3-0 and a pair of breaks in the second set, before winning five straight games en route to taking the second set, 6-4.
That performance was followed up in the Ospreys' 6-1 romp at USC Upstate, where Belair paired with senior Moritz Buerchner to grab an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles, before rolling to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles that gave UNF a 3-0 lead in the match.
With the victories, the Ospreys sit in a tie for first place in the A-Sun with a 4-0 record, as well as a 10-6 mark overall. Stetson also owns a 4-0 record in the conference, as freshman Simon Julin of the Hatters also earned a share of the A-Sun Men's Tennis weekly honors.
UNF will be back on the courts on Friday, April 5, when it travels to Tallahassee, Fla. to take on Florida State in a match scheduled to begin at noon.
