JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After playing five consecutive games on the road, the University of North Florida baseball team returns home to Dusty Rhodes Field at Harmon Stadium for a 15-game homestand. The Ospreys open the home swing with in-state rival Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m.
Live stats, in-game tweets (@OspreyBSB) and ASun.TV will be available for the game. The game will also be “Toss It Back Tuesday” featuring 2-for-1 draft beers while supplies last. Gates open at 5:00 p.m.
North Florida leads the all-time series with Bethune-Cookman 11-5, including an 8-1 mark at Harmon Stadium. The Ospreys won the first eight meetings between the two teams in Jacksonville, although the Wildcats won the last meeting at Harmon Stadium in 2012.
Earlier this season, the Ospreys earned a 4-2 victory over the Wildcats in 11 innings at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach, Fla. on Feb. 19.
Offensively, North Florida recorded seven hits against Bethune-Cookman, including one double. Corey Bass led all UNF batters with three hits on the night, while Ryan Roberson added a pair of base hits. Drew Weeks posted the only extra base hit of the night for the Ospreys, doubling in the eighth inning.
On the mound, Evan Incinelli picked up his first collegiate win, tossing 3.1 innings of scoreless relief. The sophomore surrendered two hits with no walks and a strikeout.
Incinelli entered the game in relief of starter David Trexler. The junior college transfer worked 7.2 innings in his first outing as an Osprey. Trexler scattered five hits, allowing a pair of runs. He walked one batter, while striking out a pair. Trexler posted five 1-2-3 innings and had his no-hit bid broken up in the bottom of the fifth inning.
North Florida enters the weekend 18-8 overall and 2-1 in Atlantic Sun Conference play. Bethune-Cookman is 12-14 overall, including a 6-3 record in the MEAC. The Ospreys are 4-1 this season against teams from the Sunshine State, posting victories against Bethune-Cookman (W, 4-2 – 11 inn.), Florida (W, 7-6 – 10 inn.), UCF (W, 9-5) and Florida A&M (W, 5-2). The game against the Wildcats will be the first time this season UNF will play a team from Florida at home.
Scouting the Opposition:
The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats played with greater intensity in Saturday's series finale at Kansas State, but found themselves trailing 6-3 when the game was called for snow at Tointon Family Stadium, despite an improved hitting performance. The weather had begun to cause visibility problems for the hitters on both teams and the umpires called the game in the middle of the seventh, granting Kansas State the victory and the series sweep.
