HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – University of North Florida women's basketball begins its last road trip of the regular season at Northern Kentucky on Thursday evening at the Bank of Kentucky Center.
It is the Ospreys' first trip to the Bluegrass State in the program's 21-year history. Additionally, Northern Kentucky is the only team from Kentucky to appear on UNF's schedule.
The Ospreys attempt to end the regular season on a positive note; however, the month of February has not been too friendly to UNF, who are 1-6 this month. UNF has dropped its last six games, four of which have been by five points or less.
Junior Raneisha Lamar and sophomore Destinee Smith became the second pair in the Atlantic Sun this season to each record a double-double in a single game. Against ETSU on Monday night, Smith got her first career double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Lamar notched her season's eighth with 12 points and 13 rebounds. For Smith, the 20 points tied her career high while her boards set a new career mark.
Meanwhile, senior Jadhken Kerr is closing in on the 1,000 career-point benchmark. Kerr enters the game with 993 career points, just seven away. She would become the seventh player in program history to tally 1,000 points and the first since Brittany Kirkland accomplished the feat against USC Upstate on Jan. 15, 2011. Among UNF's current 1,000 point scorers is current assistant coach Nancy Miller.
Northern Kentucky has won six of its last eight games and finishes up its first Division I regular season this weekend. The Norse come off a pair of road victories at Mercer and Kennesaw State last weekend. Tiara Hopper (11.5 ppg) and Kayla Thacker (11.1 ppg) both average over 10.0 ppg. Hopper is shooting a team-best 44.7 percent from the field this season and pulls down a team-high 5.7 rpg.
UNF holds a 1-0 lead in the all-time series after defeating Northern Kentucky 59-55 on Jan. 2 at UNF Arena.
Tip-off is set for 5 p.m., on Thursday evening. The game is also the first of a doubleheader with both schools' men's programs.
