
#MSOC Heads to Fort Myers for A-Sun Tournament

FT. MYERS, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's soccer team is set to make its second appearance in the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament on Wednesday with an opening round match against Mercer at 7 p.m., at the FGCU Soccer Complex.
The Ospreys, the No. 5 seed, finished the regular season with a 6-6-3 record including a 2-4-2 mark in league play. Mercer (5-13-1, 3-4-1 A-Sun) claimed the No.4 seed. The winner of of Wednesday's tilt advance to face top-seeded Florida Gulf Coast in the A-Sun semifinals on Friday.
In 2009, the Ospreys made their tournament debut, losing in the first round to Mercer 3-0.
Last Saturday, the Ospreys concluded the regular season with a hard fought 2-1 loss to FGCU, the ASun regular season champions. The Ospreys, down 1-0 at the half, were able to tie the match after a corner kick was deflected off an FGCU defender and found the back of the net. The Eagles would respond minutes later with the game winning goal from Henry Penagos.
Mercer carries a two game winning streak, defeating Northern Kentucky and Lipscomb on the road to conclude the regular season.
In UNF's first meeting with Mercer nearly two weeks ago, the Ospreys came out on top defeating the Bears, 1-0, in Macon. Alex Morrell sent a ball across the box finding a charging Sean Young, who buried the ball into the back of the net in the 59th minute. UNF keeper Brad Sienkiewicz tallied seven saves on the night to earn the shutout victory.
Sophomore Alex Morrell was named to the All-Atlantic Sun Second Team while freshmen Jay Bolt and Niklas Schuessler were named to the All-Atlantic Sun Freshman Team, as announced by the conference on Tuesday.
"I feel like we're very prepared coming into the tournament," said Head Coach Derek Marinatos. "I am proud of what our guys have done this season so far. We look to stick to our game plan and remain consistent throughout the tournament."
