#MSOC Downs Mercer to Advance to A-Sun Semis

FORT MYERS, Fla. – In the 31st minute of play, junior midfielder Pedro Carneiro sent a penalty kick to the back of the net proving to be all the University of North Florida men's soccer team needed to advance in the Atlantic Sun Tournament earning a 1-0 shutout of Mercer on Wednesday night at FGCU Soccer Complex.
The Ospreys were on the attack from the beginning of the match, holding an 8-4 advantage on shots and the defense didn't allow a shot on goal in the half.
With less than 15 minutes to play in the first half, the Ospreys were fouled inside the box by Mercer keeper Greg Ranjitsingh who attempted to break up a pass. Carneiro netted the penalty kick to give the Ospreys a 1-0 lead.
Mercer would come out of the half putting a little more pressure on the Ospreys. Despite being outshot in the second half 8-5, the Ospreys defense didn't allow a goal.
North Florida would finish the match with a slight 13-12 advantage on shots, while Mercer would hold an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks. Carneiro led the Ospreys attack with five shots including three shots on goal. Ian Antley and Juan Jose Morales led the Bears with three shots a piece.
Brad Sienkiewicz tallied four saves on the night for the Ospreys to earn the shutout victory. Ranjitsingh recorded five saves for the Bears.
With the victory, the Ospreys advance to the semifinals of the Atlantic Sun Tournament for the first time in school history, where they will face tournament host FGCU on Friday night at 7 p.m. Links to the live stats will be available on unfospreys.com
