#MSOC Edged in Defensive Struggle

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to East Tennessee State in a defensive battle on Friday night at Patton Park in Jacksonville, Fla. ETSU was able to break the scoreless tie in the 84th minute of the match.

In a match that featured the Atlantic Sun Conference's to best defenses, the back line for both North Florida (4-3-1, 0-1-0 A-Sun) and East Tennessee State (3-3-3, 1-0-0 A-Sun) excelled. North Florida's Brad Sienkiewicz took the hard luck loss for the Ospreys. The graduate student faced eight shots with four shots on goal. Sienkiewicz was able to record three saves while allowing just one goal. ETSU's Ryan Coulter posted four saves on the night en route to his sixth shutout of the season.

Offensively, North Florida recorded nine shots, including four shots on goal. Jean Rivaroli and Luis Daniel Camejo each posted two shots apiece with both of Rivaroli's shots coming on goal. Jay Bolt, Casey Caronis, Diogo Quirino, Niklas Schuessler and Simen Solstad each added shots. Bolt and Caronis notched shots on goal.

In the first half, the Ospreys dominated the time of possession. The majority of the first half was spent on UNF's attacking third of the field. North Florida posted four shots in the first half with two shots on goal compared to just one shot by ETSU. Coulter thwarted the Ospreys' offensive attack, posting a pair of saves in the first half to keep the score 0-0.

In the second half, ETSU outshot UNF 7-to-5 and 4-to-2 in shots on goal. The Buccaneers were able to break the scoreless tie in the 84th minute. Jonny Campbell took a shot that was blocked by Sienkiewicz. ETSU's Kristoffer Ibsen charged the box and was able to push the ball into the goal.

In the 85th minute, Bolt attempted to bury the equalizer, but Coulter was able to collect the ball and keep the score 1-0. In the final seconds of the match, Camejo attempted a bicycle kick in front of the goal that was just inches from crossing the plane and sending the match to overtime.
