JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The University of North Florida women's golf team saved its best for last posting a final round 300 Monday at the Eat-A-Peach Collegiate played at Pine Lakes Golf Club.
The Ospreys, who matched the final round low score, finished the event with a total score of 904. Freshman Mary Rodgers led the way for UNF carding a one-under-par 71 en route to earning a third-place finish at 217 (+1). Her final round score marked the first sub-par round in program history.
Fellow freshman Tess Huber finished tied for fifth at 221 (+5) after firing a round of 74 (+2) on Monday while freshman Kelly Aylwin earned a tie for 12th at 230 including an even-par 72 final day tally.
Julia McQuilken was 22nd (238) and Kelly Miller finished tied for 24th (241) to round out the North Florida lineup.
“I was extremely proud of how the whole team played in this first tournament,” said UNF head coach Joanne Steele. “We had some up and down moments throughout the event, but I was thrilled to see all the players continue to compete. I was most impressed with how supportive the team was with each other. This was definitely a great start and we just look forward to continuing making history as the season continues.”
Tournament host Mercer led wire-to-wire claiming a four-shot win over runner-up Charleston Southern. The Bears finished at 891 followed by CSU (895), North Florida, Stetson (917) and Seminole State (921).
The Ospreys will take a few weeks off from competition before returning to the links Oct. 12-14 at the Xavier Invitational at the LPGA International course.
