JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's golf team begins a busy stretch playing five consecutive days in back-to-back events beginning Friday at the LPGA Xavier Invitational.
Following the three-day, 54-hole Xavier Invite at the LPGA International course in Daytona Beach, the Ospreys return to Jacksonville for the two-day, 54-hole JU Courtyard Classic beginning Monday at Hidden Hills Country Club.
“I feel the team is playing well right now,” said head coach Joanne Steele. “We have a goal to continue our strong play from the last event and are striving to post three rounds under 300. It is going to be a challenge to play so many rounds in such a short period so I'm looking forward to see how the team responds. It will just be another first for this group.”
The Ospreys, in their inaugural season, look to build on a third-place finish at the season opening Eat-A-Peach Invitational. The same lineup will represent UNF at both events led by the freshmen duo of Mary Rodgers and Tess Huber. Rodgers and Huber each posted Top Five individual showings in their collegiate debuts.
Joining the rookie tandem will be fellow freshmen Julia McQuilken and Kelly Aylwin along with junior Kelly Miller. North Florida's Belinda George and Victoria Pitenis will both compete as individuals at the Courtyard Classic.
The 2012 LPGA Xavier Invitational field includes UAB, Bethune-Cookman, Daytona State, Florida Gulf Coast, Louisiana Monroe, McNeese State, Mercer, North Dakota, Northern Kentucky, Old Dominion, South Dakota State, Stetson and Xavier. The event features three 18-hole rounds with shotgun starts each day. The Ospreys will be paired with A-Sun rival Mercer on day one beginning at 8:30 a.m.
The JU Courtyard Classic format features 36 holes of play Monday (Oct. 15) followed by a final round of 18 holes on Tuesday.
