JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of North Florida women's basketball plays its second of four homes games this month on Saturday when the Ospreys host Stetson at UNF Arena.
UNF will attempt to snap a three-game skid on Saturday. The Ospreys come off a 72-61 setback to Atlantic Sun leader Florida Gulf Coast on Thursday night in a game that saw junior Larkira Jones become UNF's all-time leading blocker and freshman Destinee Smith score a career-high 20 points. It was Smith's second-straight game in double-digits. She had 12 at Lipscomb, which was then a career-high. Meanwhile, sophomore Raneisha Lamar grabbed a game-best 10 rebounds against the Eagles. She's had nine-or-more rebounds in three of UNF's last four games, including a career-best 11 at Mercer.
Sitting in second in the Atlantic Sun standings, Stetson has won its last three games, including a 73-63 win at Jacksonville on Thursday night. The Hatters has one of the conference's biggest offensive threats in Victoria McGowan. She is six points shy of 400 for the season and leads the conference in scoring (16.4 ppg), free throws made (104), free throw percentage (.881), assists (5.0 apg), steals, (2.9 spg) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.3 – 121 ast., 90 t/o).
The Hatters hold a slim 7-6 advantage in the all-time series. Stetson captured this season's earlier game 63-55 on Jan. 9 and have won the last three meetings.
The UNF-Stetson women's game is the first of a doubleheader with the men's teams. The women's game is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
