
Softball Splits Doubleheader at Florida A&M

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – University of North Florida softball fell to Florida A&M 2-1 in Game One, but bounced back in Game Two for an 8-2 victory on Wednesday at Lady Rattler Softball Complex.
Both teams' runs for the first game came in the third inning. In top of the third, UNF took advantage of a fielding error and a wild pitch to get Brittany Hendrix on second. Back-to-back groundouts allowed Hendrix to make her way home and put UNF up 1-0.
However, in the bottom have of the inning, Kieifi Myrick had a two-out, bases loaded single that drove in both Obie Robinson and Tera Gainer to give the Lady Rattlers the 2-1 advantage.
Five Ospreys each had one hit in the game, while Kaley Brosky had one RBI.
Gainer was 3-for-3 with one run, while Myrick went 1-for-3 with two RBI for Florida A&M
Ashley Brown was credited with the loss after giving up two runs off three hits in 3.1 innings. She also had fanned three batters. Kayla Goff came in for the final 2.2 innings and registered four strikeouts and allowed one hit.
Jennifer Lindsey pitched all 7.0 innings for the win, allowing one run off five hits. She also struck out three.
In Game Two, all eight of the Ospreys' runs came in the first three innings. UNF jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first with Jackie Reese scoring off a Mariah Reynolds RBI single up the middle. The Ospreys added to their lead in the second with a Reese triple driving in Hendrix and Stephanie McAdam to make it 3-0.
However, in the bottom of the second, Florida A&M got on the scoreboard when Myrick scored on a wild pitch. But UNF responded with a five-run third inning to go up by six. Alyson Bailey's bases loaded single up the middle allowed Danica Mandarano and Marissa Thomas to score. A two-out Hendrix hit loaded up the bases for Reese, who had a two-run single to give the Ospreys a 7-1 lead. Hendrix then scored on a Brosky single to left field as UNF held an 8-1 advantage.
The Lady Rattlers added one more run in the bottom of the fourth with a Myrick RBI double bringinh home Whitney Robinson.
Reese was 3-for-3 from the plate with four RBI and one run during Game Two, while Hendrix was 2-for-3 with two runs.
Myrick was 3-for-3 for the Lady Rattlers with one RBI and one run.
Kaylie Wallace earned the win. In 3.0 innings, she struck out three while allowing two runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Goff pitched the final 4.0 innings, fanning five batters and allowed just one hit.
Whitney Robinson had the loss after allowing all eight of UNF's runs and giving up nine hits.
UNF returns to action for the three-day Eagle Classic at Georgia Southern in Statesboro, Ga., Feb. 24-26. On the first day of the tournament, UNF plays Albany at 9:30 a.m., and then faces No. 22 Kentucky at 11:30 a.m.
