JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of North Florida softball is back on the field on Wednesday when the Ospreys travel to Tallahassee for a mid-week doubleheader at Florida A&M. It will be the UNF's only two games for the month of February that is not taking place at a tournament.
The Ospreys are coming off a 4-1 start to the season. UNF played at the three-day Dot Richardson National Collegiate Softball Invitational, racking up 37 runs and 50 hits during the tournament and wins against Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M and Ohio State. In the UNF-Florida A&M game, the two teams combined for 20 runs and 25 hits in a contest that saw UNF prevail 12-8. With UNF up 8-6, Mariah Reynolds blasted a two-out grand slam that gave the Ospreys 12 runs.
Florida A&M was 1-3 at the Dot Richardson National Collegiate Softball Invitational, getting its only win of the weekend against Florida Atlantic. In addition to UNF, the Lady Rattlers also fell to Chattanooga and Ohio State. Against UNF, Arianna Stewart led Florida A&M, going 3-for-4 with two runs, while Tera Gainer had two RBI.
UNF holds a 13-6 record all-time in the series and has won the last three meetings. Last year, the Ospreys swept the doubleheader, posting a 3-0 win in Game One and a 2-0 win in Game Two at the UNF Softball Complex on Mar. 2, 2011.
First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 4 p.m., from the Lady Rattler Softball Complex.
