
Women's Tennis Drops 5-0 Match at No. 18 Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – University of North Florida women's tennis fell 5-0 in a hard fought match at No. 18 Florida State on Wednesday that took place at both the Scott Speicher Tennis Center and the Indoor Tennis Center.
The match started at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center with all three doubles matches getting completed and the singles matches starting before rain moved into the Tallahassee area. After a brief suspension in play, the match was moved to the Indoor Tennis Center.
Florida State took the doubles point that came down to the No. 1 doubles match between UNF's Aline Berkenbrock and Lorena Aviles and Florida State's Amy Sargeant and Carolina De los Santos. Tough and aggressive play from both sides sent the match into a tiebreaker, which Florida State won and took No. 1 doubles 9-8 (7-4).
Also in doubles, Danielle Day and Melanie Aguirre dropped an 8-3 match to Francesca Segarelli and Ruth Seaborne at No. 2. Then at No. 3 doubles, Marina Cunningham and Rebeca Pereira won when Leyla Erkan and Casey Simmons retired due to injury.
In singles, Simona Weymar fell to Noemie Scharle 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5. Cunningham lost 6-1, 6-2 to De los Santos at No. 5. At No. 6 singles, Aguirre took the first set against Sargeant 6-2, but fell 6-4, 6-1 in the final two sets. The match ended with Day falling to Erkan 6-2, 7-6. Berkenbrock's No. 1 singles match with Segarelli and Aviles' No. 2 match against Seaborne were both unfinished.
UNF continues with a three-match road stretch on Feb. 11 at UNC Wilmington. Match time is set for Noon.
