JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's tennis team takes to the road this weekend for a match at UNC Wilmington on Saturday and at No. 70 College of Charleston on Sunday.
This weekend's matches will be the Ospreys' second and third matches of the dual season. UNF fell to then-No. 18 Florida State 5-0 to start dual play. However, the Ospreys won three flights at the FGCU Invitational in January. UNF traveled to College of Charleston during the fall season for the Ninth Annual CofC Invitational. UNF brought back two titles with Aline Berkenbrock and Lorena Aviles taking the A2 Doubles crown and Aviles with the A1 Singles championship. In her title match, Aviles defeated College of Charleston's Christin Newman.
UNC Wilmington is 2-3 on the season, but all three of its losses were to ranked teams. The Seahawks lost to No. 35 VCU (Jan. 21) and then to No. 14 Clemson (Jan. 28) and No. 46 Kansas State (Jan. 29) at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. However, both of UNC Wilmington's wins were sweeps – a 5-0 victory against Drexel on Jan. 21 and a 7-0 win over George Mason on Jan. 22.
No. 70 College of Charleston is 1-2 on the season heading into the weekend and will play Coastal Carolina on Sunday morning before taking on UNF. The Cougars open the dual season with two losses – one to No. 14 Clemson on Jan. 22 and one to No. 3 Duke on Jan. 27. The loss to Duke was also at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, but the Cougars ended that weekend with a 4-2 win over No. 67 Winthrop.
