TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Senior Moritz Buerchner and sophomore Norbert Nemcsek earned runner-up honors at the 2012 USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Championships, after falling in the finals of the doubles bracket on Monday afternoon.
The duo, who entered the tournament seeded third in the 44-team field, fell to the top-ranked team in the regional, Juan Spir and Vikram Hundal of Georgia Tech, in an 8-3 decision.
"Georgia Tech is a great team and they made very high percentage of first serves, so they were really able to dictate play," Head Coach Adam Schaechterle said. "We wish them luck at the National Indoor Championships."
Buerchner and Nemcsek concluded a sterling fall season of doubles play, as they advanced to the semifinals at the ITA All-American Championships just three weeks ago, a tournament that draws top talent from across the nation.
"I'm very proud of what Norbert and Moritz have accomplished," Schaeterle said. "This match exposed some areas that we will need to improve to continue competing with the best teams in the country, but they proved to themselves that they can contend for All-American status and even an NCAA title."
