
UNF Wraps Regular Season with a Pair of Road Matches

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – With a pair of road matches this weekend, the University of North Florida women's tennis team will wrap-up the 2011 regular season beginning with Jacksonville on Saturday, April 9 at 10 a.m. followed by No. 44 South Florida on Sunday, April 10 at 11 a.m.
UNF (12-5, 7-2 A-Sun) is coming off a 6-1 lost to C-USA's Central Florida the last time out. Melanie Aguirre picked up the point for the Ospreys in the match with a win at the No. 4 singles.
Simona Weymar has posted a 14-3 tally this season, playing primarily at the No. 5 while Danielle Day is 12-5, seeing most time in the No. 2. Aguirre and Victoria Krook have both picked up 11 wins with Aguirre sitting at 11-6 while Krook is 11-4. Aline Berkenbrock is 6-6 for the Ospreys, primarily in the No. 1 and Melinda Doak has a 7-8 record at No. 6.
Aguirre and Day have teamed up in doubles all season and are 14-3. The UNF duos of Weymar and Berkenbrock as well as Krook and Doak both have 9-4 records.
Jacksonville (15-4, 6-3 A-Sun) defeated Stetson the last time out, 4-3. The Dolphins lost the doubles point, but claimed wins in the No. 1, 3, 4 and 5 singles matches as Eve Castaing, Flavia Nagayama, Natalia Melibeu and Virginia Iwinski secured points.
The Ospreys are currently tied for second in the A-Sun standings while the Dolphins are tied for sixth. Last season, UNF defeated JU, 6-1.
USF (7-10) are currently ranked No. 44 in the ITA standings. The Bulls defeated No. 75 Ohio State and Memphis in their last outings. Leading the Bulls are a trio of ranked players, No. 35 Irene Rehberger, No. 67 Janette Bejlkova and No. 114 Ecaterina Vasenina. Bejlkova is also ranked in doubles, No. 68, with partner Loreto Alonso Martinez.
UNF has already clinched a spot in the 2011 Atlantic Sun Conference women's tennis championship to be held April 14-16. Stetson is hosting this year's tournament.
