
Softball to Face Seminoles of Florida State

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida softball team (20-23, 4-8 A-Sun) will be taking a detour from conference play for non-conference doubleheader against Florida State (19-21, 5-7 ACC) in Tallahassee, Fla. on Wednesday, April 13. The first pitch of game one is slated for 4 p.m. (ET).
Currently on a two-game losing streak but winning three of its last six contests, the Ospreys enter the weekend after being swept by A-Sun leader Lipscomb and splitting two games with Belmont in Nashville, Tenn. last weekend. The squad struggled to score runs all weekend, plating just three runs in its lone victory while being shutout in the other three games.
Of North Florida's 23 losses, 10 came at the hands of either nationally-ranked teams or squads that competed in the NCAA Tournament last season.
Freshman Cortney Radke continues to lead North Florida in the circle, pitching 210.2 innings this season and boasting an ERA of 1.96. Radke has tallied five shutouts in 21 complete games on the year and has fanned 233 batters en route to a record of 18-15. At the plate, freshman Mariah Reynolds is hitting a team-best .288 on the season with four homeruns and a team-high 10 doubles.
Florida State hosts a doubleheader with Mercer on Tuesday, April 12, and has won just three of its last 10 games. The Seminoles are led at the plate by Jen Lapicki who is hitting .367 at this point in the season with five homeruns, four doubles and 22 RBI. As a team, Florida State is batting .279, while holding opponents to a .244 average. In the circle, Sarah Hamilton has worked 152.1 innings to a 12-13 record and 1.93 ERA, including 193 strikeouts to lead the Seminoles staff.
North Florida has met Florida State on the diamond just four times with the Seminoles holding a 3-1 advantage in the all-time series, including a 2-0 record in Tallahassee. North Florida claimed the most recent meeting on March 23, 2009 over the then-No. 22 Florida State squad, 5-3, within the confines of the UNF Softball Complex.
