UNF Finishes 8th at General Hackler Golf Championship

MURRELLS INLET, S.C. – The No.49-ranked University of North Florida men's golf team carded a final round 304 Tuesday to finish eighth at the 2011 General Hackler Championship hosted by Coastal Carolina University at the TPC of Myrtle Beach.
The Ospreys finished with a 54-hole total of 908 on the par 72, 6,950-yard layout of TPC Myrtle Beach. Junior Kevin Aylwin, who finished tied for 10th, led the way for UNF continuing his solid season with his fourth Top 10 showing of the year after a three-round tally 222 including a final round 75.
Fellow junior Joe Byun fired the low round of the day for UNF shooting a 74 to finish tied for 28th at 227 along with sophomore teammate Kevin Phelan, who posted a final round 79. Senior Jacob Davidson finished tied for 38th at 232 (76) and junior Major Forbess was tied for 76th at 243 (79) to round out the North Florida lineup. Sophomore Joey Marion earned a tie for 51st at 235 (77) playing as an individual in the event.
"Kevin (Aylwin) had a good finish for the tournament," said UNF head coach Scott Schroeder. "We really had a good round going today but struggled to finish it out. We have a quick turnaround for our next event so we just have to get some practice in and be ready to go the next time we tee it up."
Defending national champion and ninth-ranked Augusta State rallied on the final day capturing the team title with a tournament total 878, three shots in front of day one leader No. 17 Virginia at 881. No. 13-ranked Auburn finished third at 890 followed by No. 41 Tennessee (893), No. 43 Pepperdine (897), Coastal Carolina (904), ECU (905), UNF, Lamar (915), ETSU (916), College of Charleston (922), No. 22 Wake Forest (929), USC Upstate (930), Charleston Southern (940), Presbyterian (954), Gardner-Webb (971) and WCU (979).
ASU's Henrik Norlander fired a final round 67 (-5) en route to earning the individual medalist crown with a score of 210 (-6).
The UNF golf team continues a busy two week stretch in which the squad will participate in three tournaments. Up next for the Ospreys is the Schenkel Invitational hosted by Georgia Southern Mar. 18-20 at the Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Ga.
