KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Turnovers and hot shooting by UMKC were costly for the University of North Florida women's basketball team as the Ospreys lost 100-63 at UMKC Tuesday night at the Swinney Recreation Center.

Both UNF and UMKC came out firing in the first half with the teams shooting 47.6 and 57.6 percent, respectively. Behind a 17-5 run, the Kangaroos took an early 14-point 19-5 advantage at the 15:48 mark in the first half. UMKC pushed its lead to 15, but a Kim Baker jumper sparked an 8-2 run that pulled the Ospreys to within nine with 9:11 remaining. Although the Kangaroos regained a 15-point lead, six-straight points by Brittany Kirkland brought UNF back to within nine. However, UMKC hit four treys off its next five field goals en route to taking a 52-30 advantage heading into halftime.
UNF came out in the second half outscoring UMKC 13-9 to take a 61-43 advantage with 15:01 to go. Kerr hit a three-pointer that brought the Ospreys to within 18. However, UMKC shooting remained hot for the rest of the game, allowing the Kangaroos to pull away from UNF.
UNF returns to its home court for its next two games. The Ospreys are back in action on Monday against Coastal Carolina at UNF Arena at 7 p.m.
