GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida swimming and diving team concluded the Florida Invitational at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center Pool in Gainesville, Fla.
Meet-host Florida claimed the 2011 All-Florida Invitational title, finishing ahead of rival Florida State. Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association rival Florida Gulf Coast took third place ahead of Miami, Florida Atlantic, FIU, North Florida, Florida Southern and Nova Southeastern.
Day three began with the 1,650-yard freestyle. Freshman Christine Kemp recorded the fastest time of the day for the Ospreys with a time of 17:53.35, while freshman Allison Troia posted a time of 18:38.08 in the event.
Freshman Kristina Alexiou posted the top time for North Florida in the finals of the 200 backstroke. She was joined in the preliminaries by junior Katie England and senior Gala Poon.
The rookie notched a time of 2:11.34. In the 100 freestyle, Rebeca Bernard posted a time of 54.79 in the finals. Kemp, Maria Bernard, Alexiou, Lissa Janowicz, Emily Wynn and Troia each competed in the preliminaries of the 100 free.
Bridget Woods and Sara Evans finished 1-2 among North Florida swimmers in the finals of the 200 breaststroke. Woods posted a time of 2:24.48, while Evans swam a time of 2:28.01. Natalie McCallum, England and Troia joined Woods and Evans in the prelims.
In the finals of the 200 butterfly, Janowicz recorded a time of 2:08.79 as the top finisher of the event for UNF. She was joined in the prelims by Wynn.
The 400 freestyle relay team of M. Bernard, R. Bernard, Kemp and McCallum posted a time of 3:36.55 to finish ahead of teammates Woods, Evans, Janowicz and Alexiou in the final event of the meet.
North Florida returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 29 as the Ospreys host a double-dual meet against Campbell and FIU at the UNF Aquatic Center in Jacksonville, Fla.
