
UNF Hits the Road for A-Sun Game at Belmont

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The University of North Florida women's basketball team is slated to face Atlantic Sun opponent Belmont on Saturday, Jan. 8 at 3 p.m. EST in a road contest at the Curb Event Center in Nashville, Tenn.
UNF (2-10, 0-3 A-Sun) is coming off a hard-fought, 80-73, double overtime loss to Campbell on Wednesday night. Brittany Kirkland led with 23 points while Jadhken Kerr knocked down a career-high 21 points. Larkira Jones grabbed a career-best 15 rebounds in the game.
Kirkland leads the team on the season, averaging 15.4 points game and ranks third in the conference. In league games she has upped her average to 18.3 points per game. Juliemay Syquio is adding 8.3 points per game and handing out 3.3 assists per game. Taylor Smith and Kerr are averaging 6.6 and 6.2 points per game, respectively. Jones is grabbing a team-high 6.9 rebounds per game.
The Bruins (5-8, 2-2 A-Sun) are coming off a Florida road trip where they faced Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson. Belmont fell to FGCU, 79-39 before picking up a 59-45 win over Stetson on Wednesday.
Leading the Bruins is Haley Nelson with 12.5 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Molly Ernst is averaging 10.7 points while Shaunda Strayhorn is adding 9.5 points per game.
Belmont holds the lead in the all-time series, 6-3. The Bruins picked up a pair of wins last season with a 77-68 decision in Nashville in the last meeting between the two teams. BU held off the Ospreys in Jacksonville for a 55-51 win. Kirkland averaged 19.5 points per game against BU last season, including a 20 point performance at the Curb Center. Syquio averaged seven rebounds per game, grabbing 10 at UNF Arena.
The Ospreys will remain in Nashville following Saturday's game and will face Lipscomb on Monday, Jan. 10 at 6 p.m. EST.
