
Ospreys Set for Long Road Trip

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida baseball team hits the road for six days to play five games, including a three-game Atlantic Sun Conference series. The Ospreys leave for Nashville, Tenn. on Friday morning and will play Belmont in a three-game weekend series at Shelby Park. Following the series with the Bruins, UNF heads to Greensboro, N.C. for a pair of midweek games against UNC Greensboro.
UNF and Belmont start the series with a doubleheader on Saturday, May 1, beginning at 1 p.m. The Ospreys and Bruins conclude the series with a single game on Sunday, May 2, starting at 2 p.m. North Florida will take on the Spartans of UNCG on Tuesday, May 4, at 6 p.m., before finishing the road trip with a game on Wednesday, May 5, at 2 p.m.
The Ospreys enter the week with a 22-18 overall record, including a 10-5 mark in Atlantic Sun Conference play.
UNF leads the all-time series with Belmont, 7-6. The Ospreys have won the last two meetings between the two teams, claiming a pair of victories last season at Harmon Stadium. After winning the first two games of the series played in Nashville, North Florida has dropped its last four games of the series on the road.
North Florida and UNC Greensboro have met only once on the diamond with the Ospreys claiming a 3-2 victory over the Spartans in the 2007 Kennel Club Classic.
In their last outing, the Ospreys dropped a 15-7 decision to in-state rival UCF. Offensively, North Florida collected 13 hits on the night, including four doubles and two home runs. Sophomore Andrew Karmeris and senior T.J. Thompson each had three hits apiece. Karmeris finished the game 3-for-5 with a home run, a run score and two RBI, while Thompson was 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored. In addition, senior Preston Hale had a pair of hits, including a home run.
On the mound, the Ospreys fell victim to the powerful bats of the Knights. UCF collected 19 hits in the game, including two doubles and three home runs. North Florida used five pitchers on the night and all five pitchers were charged with at least one run.
Belmont enters the weekend with a 20-23 overall record and a 7-11 record in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Bruins were swept in their last A-Sun series, dropping three games on the road to league-leader Florida Gulf Coast. In their last conference series at home, Belmont won a three-game series with Stetson, 2-1.
