The Ospreys have hit four home runs in the past two days
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Freshman catcher Jackie Reese hit two home runs to center field on Sunday to lift the University of North Florida softball team past Bowling Green, 7-1, for the Ospreys fourth win in a row in the final game of the Buzz Classic.
Last night against Jacksonville State, Reese hit her first-ever career home run. In today's game, the Melbourne, Fla. native experienced her first multi-home run day as an Osprey with her second inning solo shot and her fifth inning two run home run to put the Ospreys up by six.
With the help of Reese, who leads the team in home runs (3), the Ospreys move to 7-13 and the Falcons to 4-9 on the season.
Head coach Marcie Hickey mentioned that both the offense and the defense for the Ospreys have been both stepping-up. Senior Devyn Findley (6-7) and Shaina Dent once again teamed up to hold the opposition to only two runs and combined for nine strikeouts. BG could only muster two hits against the tandem hurlers.
UNF scored four times in the fifth with Findley recording the second of the three home runs hit in the game. In 2009, the Ospreys' team high in home runs in a single game was two and the last UNF player to hit two-home runs in a game was Heather Hyde in 2007.
Junior Melissa Bott took the loss for the Falcons, allowing only one earned run in five innings. Bott gave up just two hits, walking three and striking out four. Zada Lines pitched one inning, giving up four runs (two earned) and two hits.
The Ospreys will play again this Wednesday, March 10th, at 4 p.m. for a doubleheader against Memphis at the UNF Softball Complex in Jacksonville, Fla.
