Ospreys Play Tigers Wednesday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida softball team will play a pair of games against Memphis on March 10, at 4 p.m., at the UNF Softball Complex.

The Ospreys (7-13) won four in a row over the weekend at the Georgia Tech Buzz Classic in Marietta, Ga. Of the 22 teams that competed North Florida ranked third behind the tournament host and Winthrop. UNF went 4-1 altogether.

Newcomer Jackie Reese was selected to the all-tournament team after hitting .556, with three homeruns and driving in six RBI over the weekend. Reese comes to UNF from Eau Gallie High School where she garnered second team all-state in her sophomore and junior years and in her senior year she was a first team all-state finalist with her .493 batting average.

Mostly starting at catcher, Reese is one of two freshmen on the team who has seen considerable playing time with her 14 starts.

Over the weekend sophomore Britanie Block hit .400 and drove in three runs off of six hits. Junior Caroline Torre also hit in three RBI as she continues to lead the team with 13.

Senior Devyn Findley (6-7) recorded three wins which included complete game shutout against Georgia State. Sophomore Shaina Dent (1-6) recorded her first win of the season against the Gamecocks.

Memphis (9-6) has two players hitting over .300 with Leigh Rowan leading the Tigers with a batting average of .422 and Maddie McKinley at .311. In the pitching circle Carly Hummel was named the C-USA Pitcher of the Week after going 3-0 in the USF Under Armour Invitational in Clearwater, Fla.

This past weekend, Hummel picked up all three of the Tigers' wins. Hummel struck out 22 and had an ERA of .84. The Tigers lead the league four weeks into the season in ERA with a 1.54 and opposing batters are averaging .159.

Memphis earned notable wins over Virginia Tech 2-0 and Jacksonville 8-3 in Clearwater, Fla.
