
Ospreys Split on First Day

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. –Devyn Findley recorded a five-hit shutout as the University of North Florida knocked off Georgia State, 4-0, in game two of the Buzz Classic. In the first game the Ospreys lost 4-0 to James Madison.
James Madison broke open a scoreless game in the top of the third inning, scoring four runs off North Florida starter Shaina Dent (0-6). With two out and runners on first and second JMU's catcher was able to send in the first run with a double but the Dukes would knock in two more runs off another double leaving the score 4-0.
Dent after 2 2/3 innings allowed four earned runs on seven hits and was relieved by Findley who escaped the inning with a grounder to sophomore Britanie Block for the third out in the third inning.
James Madison's starter Heather Dindinger and Cara Stecher took JMU the rest of the way, combining for a seven-hit shutout. Dindinger pitched the first 5 2/3 innings, giving up five hits and striking out four before being lifted in the bottom of the sixth.
The Ospreys (4-13) rallied again in the seventh inning with a clutch pinch hit double by senior Airen Payne. Payne then moved to third by freshman Molly Grubb's base hit but with a two out rally in the midst it would be halted by Stecher picking up her first save of the season.
Leadoff hitter Block helped the Ospreys fight back in the second game of the tournament going 3-for-4 with a double and scored twice to give the Ospreys their fourth win of the season.
In the first inning the Ospreys put together a couple of base hits that led to a Georgia State error allowing two unearned runs to come across the plate. Senior Kara Rutenbar hit a fly ball to right field, which was misplayed by Panther Audre Mason, leading to North Florida's 2-0 advantage.
The Alachua, Fla, native, Findley (4-7), recorded a five-hit shutout, registering seven strikeouts and dropping her ERA down to 2.76 on the season. Findley allowed five hits and limited the Panthers to no more than one hit in an inning.
In the fourth inning junior Caroline Torre received the only RBI for the Ospreys driving in Block with a double to centerfield. Torre currently leads the team in RBI with 11.
Later in the day in GSU's second game they would go onto beat No. 23 ranked Kentucky, 7-1.
The Ospreys play tomorrow at 1 p.m. against Akron and again at 6 p.m. against Jacksonville State for day two of the Buzz Classic in Atlanta, Ga.
