
UNF Prepares For Georgia Southern

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida softball team will travel Wednesday, March 24, to Statesboro, Ga. to play a 4 p.m. doubleheader against Georgia Southern.
UNF (13-18, 1-1 A-Sun) has swept Georgia Southern the past three seasons. Currently, junior Caroline Torre leads the pack with her .313 batting average and her 17 RBI.
This past weekend the Ospreys went 2-2 in the USF “The Game” Tournament. The Ospreys beat Dartmouth 3-0 and No. 16/17 (ESPN/NFCA Top 25) Ohio State 1-0 in a closely contested game that senior Devyn Findley was able to pick-up her tenth win with a complete game shutout, only allowing four hits. Both Shaina Dent and Findley had 0.00 ERA throughout the tournament, giving up four runs, zero were earned.
Over the weekend, junior outfielder Stephany Hall made her debut start in left field. Hall started in all four games over the weekend and led the Ospreys assault with her three RBI. She had two RBI against Dartmouth to extend UNF's lead by three and one against Ohio State to bring down the nationally ranked Buckeyes.
In the month of March, the Ospreys have had 13 games and Britanie Block has had hits in all but two. Block has shown her consistency in the leadoff spot for North Florida leading the team in hits (31) and runs (17). She has been an inning starter for UNF with an on-base percentage that keeps getting better and better.
The Eagles (16-9, 5-1 Southern Conference) have three players who are hitting over .300. Nina Iduate leads the team offensively, having a .443 BA, 35 hits and nine stolen bases on the season. Megan Smith is hitting .354, leads the team in home runs with eight and has a slugging percentage of .747. Smith also has recorded 17 RBI on 28 hits. Marie Fogle sits at a .316 batting average.
In the pitching circle, the Eagles are led by Brianna Streetmon. Streetmon has 11 wins on the season and 11 complete games. She has maintained a 1.46 ERA allowing 16 earned runs in 98.1 innings. Streetmon has limited the opposition to hitting .182 and the rotation as a whole has limited opponents to .209 BA.
Georgia Southern completed a weekend sweep at home against conference opponent Western Carolina. Infielder Sam Russo went 3-3 on Sunday and drove in three runs to help the Eagles win and extend their win-streak to four.
