The Ospreys (2-11) came away from their three hour, mildly rainy, extra inning nightcap with a tough loss that was settled in the top of the tenth with a two-run homerun by the Knights' centerfielder, Vanessa Perez.
In the top of the second inning, the Knights scored first with a run, but was soon followed in the bottom of the half with junior Caroline Torre getting a one out single that was followed by two hit by pitches loading the bases for sophomore Ariana Godwin.
Godwin, behind in the count, slapped a ball to left that was dropped by the Knights' left fielder allowing two runs to come in giving North Florida the 2-1 advantage.
In the third inning starting pitcher Shaina Dent would be relieved by senior Devyn Findley (2-7) after going 3 1/3 innings. Findley would enter the circle with runners on first and third and get two big outs to keep the Knights off the board in the third.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Ospreys started things out with a base hit by sophomore Alyson Bailey who then advanced to second off of the Knights' second error of the night. With runners on the corners and the Ospreys down 3-2, Torre once again stepped to the plate and produced a much needed base hit sending Bailey home (3-3).
In the eighth inning the Ospreys would come together in the eighth loading the bases with one out and their number three hitter Findley up to bat. But the Knights' pitcher, who went 10 innings giving up no earned runs, got a rally-ending double play to keep the score knotted up 3-3.
In the top of the tenth, Perez after seeing 12 pitches in her at-bat, golfed a low inside pitch towards left field to put the Knights up two (5-3) for the win.
The Ospreys will be back on the road this Saturday when they play a doubleheader against FAMU on Feb. 27, at 1 p.m. in
