UNF goes for gold at CCSAs
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida women's swimming and diving team will go for the gold when it competes in the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Championships beginning on Thursday.
The Lady Ospreys are jumping back in the pool after a near month off to train for the conference meet. In UNF's last competition, the Lady Ospreys defeated CCSA foe Georgia Southern, 177-119, in a thrilling dual that saw yet another record set by sophomore Lyn Ann Nelson.
Nelson broke her UNF record in the 1000-free for the third-straight meet, clocking in at 10:23.40. Nelson also took first in the 100-free with a season-best time of 53.22 and was the top finisher in the 500-free with a season-best time of 5:06.74).
Senior Caroline Poling snatched first in the 100-butterfly, and senior diver Emily Eisenhower was the top finisher in 3-meter diving. Freshman Taylor Crosby continued her breakout second half of the season, as she swam the 100-breast in a season-best 1:07.29 to take first. She was also the top finisher in the 200-breast, swimming the event in a season-best 2:26.06. UNF took first in 12 of 16 events in the meet.

Who's Hot: Poling is peaking at about just the right time. She had a near season-best time in the 100-butterfly against Georgia Southern in UNF's last meet and should be at her best after training. Poling broke the UNF record in both the 100 and 200-butterfly at last year's CCSA Championships and was named all- conference in the 100-butterfly.
Nelson has broken her own school record in the 1000-free three times this year, although the CCSA Meet has the 1650-free instead of the 1000-free. She finished seventh in the 1650 this year at the Davidson Invitational in November. No stranger to success at the CCSA Championships, Nelson earned all- conference honors in the 200-free at the meet last year after taking first.
Crosby has come out of no where to be one of UNF's strongest swimmers. Since she swam her first meet against UNC Wilmington on Jan. 3, she has finished first in every meet she has competed in.
Notables: UNF finished sixth at last year's CCSA Championships ... the Lady Ospreys have won their conference twice - in 2001-02 and 2002-03 with the Southern States Conference ... UNF had four all- conference performers at last year's CCSA Championships ... the Lady Ospreys had three record times at last season's meet.
