Nelson breaks two school records
ATHENS, Ga. - The University of North Florida women's swimming and diving team got off to an exciting start at day one of the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Championships on Friday.
The Lady Ospreys set three new school records in addition to two conference records being broken. Sophomore Lyn Ann Nelson led the way when she set a new UNF and CCSA record in the 500-free preliminaries with a time of 4:52.23. She then bested that time by nearly three seconds in the final (4:49.92) and finished second. The time helped her qualify for the NCAA "B" cut, which gives her a chance to compete at the NCAA Championship Meet.
Nelson teamed up with junior Emily Shaw, freshman Taylor Crosby and senior Caroline Poling to set a new school record in the 400-medley relay, clocking in at 3:51.40. The time also bested the previous conference record.
Crosby set a new record in the 200-individual medley, clocking in at 2:07.19 in the consolation. Freshman Amanda Anderson also bested the previous UNF record preliminaries with a time of 2:07.74. She clocked in even faster in the consolation, swimming the event in 2:07.46.
UNF stands in fifth place after the first day of competition. The Lady Ospreys will begin preliminaries at 10 a.m. tomorrow, followed by finals at 6 p.m.
