UNF men’s soccer lost 1-0 to ETSU
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to East Tennessee State on Friday, Oct. 23, at Hodges Stadium. The match was fairly even, but a second-half goal by the Bucs proved to be the difference.
“They took the chance and we didn't, unfortunately,” head coach Ray Bunch remarked after the match. “I thought it was a very good match. At the end of the day, we didn't score or take our chances. You win as a team. You lose as a team. I thought Jullian [Beau] did quite well. I thought as a team we played very well and in fairness to East Tennessee, I thought they also played well.”
The only goal of the night came in the 73rd minute of the match. ETSU's Aaron Schoenfeld took a pass from Sean Hoek from the left side and put a shot from eight yards out into the back of the net.
The match was basically even throughout its entirety. The two teams entered intermission tied at 0-0. In the first half, East Tennessee State held a one-shot advantage on North Florida (5-4), but the Ospreys held a 3-to-0 advantage in shots on goal. Corner kicks in the first half were almost identical with ETSU taking four, while UNF recorded three.
In the second half, the Bucs recorded eight shots compared to six by the Ospreys. The Bucs took four corner kicks, but the Ospreys were close behind with two.
The two teams combined for 29 fouls in the match with East Tennessee State edging North Florida 15-to-14. Both teams finished with six shots on goal apiece.
Both teams finished the match with six saves apiece. Sophomore goalkeeper Jullian Beau thwarted four shots on goal with the UNF team recording a pair of saves as well. The only miscue of the night for the Ospreys was the lone goal in the 73rd minute. All six of North Florida's saves came in the second half.
Offensively, seven different UNF players recorded shots with sophomore Kevin Ramirez leading the way with three shots. Six different Ospreys posted shots on goal in the match.
North Florida continues the weekend on Sunday, Oct. 25, as they take on USC Upstate in a match slated for 3:30 p.m. at Hodges Stadium.
