JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida women's swimming and diving team put up a tough fight against UNC Wilmington on Saturday at UNF Aquatic Center in a thrilling, down to the wire dual meet.
Despite first-place finishes in eight events, UNF (3-1) bowed out 149-138 to the Seahawks (4-3), who came into the dual ranked 17th in the CollegeSwimming.com Mid Major Poll. The loss snapped a four-dual win streak for the Lady Ospreys.
Sophomore Lyn Ann Nelson paced UNF by taking first in the 1000-free (10:33.99), 200-free (1:56.29) and 100-free (54.67). Freshman Taylor Crosby captured the top spot in the 100-breast with a time of 1:09.30, while freshman Amanda Anderson came in at second with a season-best time of 1:11.32. Anderson also took first in the 200-breast after clocking in at 2:29.92.
The do-all award of the day went to sophomore Patricia Lanoue. After snatching first in the 200-butterfly with a season-best time of 2:12.35, she stepped out of the pool and onto the diving board to finish second in 1-meter diving. It was the first time in her college career on the diving board at a meet. Freshman Stefanie Dudar also chipped in on 1-meter, placing third.
Senior diver Emily Eisenhower took first in both 1 and 3-meter diving. She has now recorded at least one first place finish in four consecutive duals and has 18 career first-place showings.
The Lady Ospreys will return to the pool at 1 p.m. on Thursday when they host College of Charleston and Florida A&M for a tri-dual at UNF Aquatic Center.
