Lady Ospreys take top spot in 12 events
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Everything went right for the University of North Florida women's swimming and diving team on Saturday when it defeated Georgia Southern, 177-119, in its final home meet of the year.
Senior diver Emily Eisenhower and senior swimmers Katrina Johnson and Caroline Poling competed in their final home meet as Lady Ospreys and were honored before the meet. UNF (6- 2, 6-1 Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association) won 12 of the 16 events, including Poling's first-place showing in the 100-butterfly (59.04) and Eisenhower's top finish in 3-meter diving (226.27).
Sophomore Lyn Ann Nelson broke her UNF record in the 1000-free for the third-straight meet, clocking in at 10:23.40. Nelson also took first in the 100-free with a season-best time of 53.22 and was the top finisher in the 500-free with a season-best time of 5:06.74).
She teamed up with junior Emily Shaw, sophomore Megan Boudreau and sophomore Sara Taylor as the anchor to make a tremendous comeback and win the 400-free relay (3:37.46).
Freshman Taylor Crosby continued her breakout second half of the season, as she swam the 100-breast in a season-best 1:07.29 to take first. She was also the top finisher in the 200-breast, swimming the event in a season-best 2:26.06. Crosby teamed up with freshman Gala Poon, Poling and Shaw to win the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:51.29.
Poon bested her top season time in the 100-back, clocking in at 1:00.04 to claim first-place honors. Junior Kelly Park was the top finisher in the 200-IM with a season-best time of 2:11.02.
UNF's 6-1 mark in the CCSA is its best showing since joining the conference last season. The Lady Ospreys will wrap up their season when they head to Athens, Ga., to compete in the CCSA Championships, which takes place Feb. 19-21.
